KLY - 2minutes2Late
"Still Keeping Love Young"
What? It’s 2mins2late? This project could not have come soon enough! KLY finally gave his fans some new sounds to vibe to and we love how he just picked up from where he left off.
Like most great artists, KLY proves that his music is not just about the lyrics, but the way they are delivered as well. On Love Me, he exclaims “She don’t wanna love me but she do!” This, with the same bravado on The Deal, he recites “She really wanna come with me. Girl, you know what the deal is. Yeah!” His persistent playboy/ trap-soul sound is what makes his music such a treasure.
Honest is a more morose song about a partner’s distrust. On that track, he also reminds fans of his past collaboration with Ycee titled Local. Let us know if you can spot the Easter-egg!
Nearly halfway through this short project, we asked ourselves what was missing. True local soul, maybe? Well, it isn’t. KLY’s isiZulu singing has always been commendable. He proves this yet again on Heartbreak.
After the more saddening songs on the project, the artist picks it up again on Savagely Her. A listener would be able to tell that that they are about to experience his heavier trap sounds just by the highly altered vocals on the hook. The song 4310001 proves the previous sentence with a standout feature from LP2Loose.
Show Me Love with Lyta is an upbeat dance song for people with honest hips and it helps the project reach its conclusion very well. Fans of afrobeat would really love this joint!
In its entirety, we love how 2mins2late has that R&B, Trapsoul and afrobeat vibe - so well executed. We repeat this project from time to time because it is that good! So good, it lands on 3.5 mics from snf.
