Thato Saul - Life is Gangsta

Thato Saul dropped his second solo album since his hot debut album Members Only which dropped in 2020. The project, titled Life is Gangsta, is a 13 track album which greatly showcases Saul’s trials, hustle and W’s within his journey. Life is Gangsta takes nothing away from the heavy lyricist, but only adds more flare to Thato Saul’s position in the SA rap game, moving him from the ideal newcomer to a household name within the streets.

It is undeniable that Thato Saul is an incredible kasi storyteller but his album has shifted Thato’s game - leaving him up-one and proving himself as more than just an underground rapper. A day post release of Life is Gangsta, Thato Saul proved to be a force to be reckoned with by chart topping and surpassing international heavyweights such as Future’s “I Never Liked You”, Post Malone’s ‘Twelve Carat Toothache” and Kendrick Lamar’s “Mr. Morale and The Big Steppers” on Apple Music’s Top album charts.

To add more to Saul’s achievements, he was placed at #78 for Top Artists South Africa on Spotify making him the highest new entry. These W’s show much respect to Thato Saul’s name also highlighting that the king single handedly charted as he’s still an independent artist, so big up to the independent-hustlers pushing through the mainstream levol.

Life is Gangsta feels like a continuation of Thato Saul’s storytelling of his hustle and street life, a second coming to his debut album. In this album Thato Saul executes a series of fire bars in collaboration with some of SA’s standout artists with features from A-Reece, Marcus Harvey, Maglera Doe Boy, Tron Pyre and Tyson Sybateli.

Life is Gangsta also boasts notable production credits from Feziekk, Beatshoven and MashBeatz. It is amazing what true artists can create when they come together. For that reason, we have to give Thato 4.5 mics out of five… just for the SAUL!
